  • Lover's Eye: Group Exhibition

    Exhibition Dates: February 3–25, 2017

Modern Eden presents Lover's Eye, a new group exhibition curated by the gallery. For this exciting project, artists were asked to consider the 'Lover's Eye' as a historical style of painting and create small works incorporating a single eye as the subject of the artwork.

Lovers' Eyes were Georgian miniatures, traditionally they were watercolor on ivory, depicting the eye or eyes of a spouse, loved one or child. These were usually commissioned for sentimental reasons and were often worn as bracelets, brooches, pendants or rings with richly decorated frames, serving the same emotional need as lockets hiding portraits or locks of hair. Lover's eyes were popularized in the late 1700s.

The opening reception will be held on Friday, March 3 at Modern Eden Gallery in San Francisco and select artists will be in attendance. Check back for additional details and teasers as the exhibition approaches. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, or use the link above to be added to our preview list.
