Nadezda: Imaginary Friends - Opening Dec 4!
In her fifth solo exhibition at Modern Eden, Lacey Bryant presents Flux, a collection of hauntingly poetic oil paintings that explore the impermanence of identity, memory, and place. Within these dreamlike tableaus, figures drift between states of being, caught in the space between the real and the surreal. They inhabit crumbling structures, overgrown paths, and impossible skies—liminal zones where past and future intermingle and the laws of nature yield to emotion.
Rendered in her signature blend of rich color, layered symbolism, and evocative storytelling, Bryant’s new body of work considers change as both an inevitable force and a deeply personal experience. Each painting captures a moment of transition: a ghost train appearing on a forgotten track, a woman afloat in an undefined ether, an island detached from its moorings. These images don’t offer resolution. Instead, they hold space for uncertainty and wonder.
With Flux, Bryant invites us to linger in these in-between places, to reflect on what is lost, what is becoming, and what we carry forward.
Lacey Bryant is a painter based in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she works from her studio almost every day. Her evocative oil paintings explore quiet, haunting narratives that unfold between her subjects. Blending nostalgic sweetness with hints of darkness and mystery, her work invites viewers into a surreal world just beyond the familiar.
Lacey is also the creator of 'The Slow Tarot', a full tarot deck and series published by Modern Eden Gallery in 2019. 'Flux' marks her fifth solo exhibition with the gallery.
