The Language of Flowers

The Language of Flowers: International Group Exhibition

Exhibition Dates: May 11 - June 15, 2013

Modern Eden Gallery is pleased to announce “The Language of Flowers”, an international group exhibition inspired by flowers and their hidden meanings.

The language of flowers, sometimes called floriography , was a Victorian-era means of communication in which various flowers and floral arrangements were used to send coded messages, allowing people to express feelings which otherwise could not be spoken. This language was most commonly communicated through “tussie-mussies”, small flower bouquets, an art which continues to have a following today. In addition to floriography, Hanakotoba is the Japanese form of the language of flowers. In this practice plants were given codes and passwords, meant to convey emotion and communicate directly to each other without needing the use of words.

Our participating artists have used these floral cues to create symbolic meaning in their works.  Featured artists are Redd Walitzki, Nicomi Nix Turner, Cory Benhatzel, Lacey Bryant, Miguel G onzalez,  Archer Dougherty, Henry Schreiber, Daisy Church, Christopher Umana, Rudy Fig, Serg io Lopez, Catherine Moore, Brenton Bostwick, Amy Minchew, Joseph S.
