  • Brianna Angelakis: Radiance

    Exhibition Dates: March 10–April 7, 2018

Modern Eden Gallery is excited to present the second major solo exhibition of gallery artist Brianna Angelakis. In ‘Radiance’, Angelakis reflects on childhood memories of growing up in her mother’s dress shop. These intricate and bold textiles weave and dance among the figures bringing a sense of nostalgia and enchantment. As the artist explains, “Working directly from life, I individually paint and draw the fabrics in my works through a system of collage. Combining pieces of my ripped, unraveled, and cut fabrics into compositions, I highlight the figure through ornamentation. Attracted to the aesthetic opportunities of costume, I resolved to utilize my collection of textiles as potential clothing articles. In my body of work, I create a dreamlike world where ribbons, lace, and fabrics engage with the figure, manifesting into spectacles of radiance and beauty.”

Brianna Angelakis was born in Massachusetts in 1990. Growing up in New England, she moved to Florida in her late teen years. In 2013, she graduated summa cum laude from Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL, with a BFA in Fine Arts, a BA in English, and a minor in Illustration. In 2017, she graduated from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL, with her MFA in Art, with a concentration in Painting and Drawing. Her work has been published by Hi-Fructose, Manifest INDA, Manifest INPA, PoetsArtists Magazine, Professional Artist Magazine, Infected by Art, and Creative Quarterly. She has exhibited her work both nationally and internationally in cities including New York, NY; Los Angeles, CA; San Francisco, CA; Chicago, IL; Cincinnati, OH; and Frankfurt, Germany.
