After a deeply difficult few months that took both a physical and emotional toll, I found myself reflecting on how I used to escape as a child while surviving domestic abuse - floating face down in water and pretending I no longer existed. Now, with a loving family of my own, the gold leaf symbolises the care, hope and belonging that keep me anchored in the present.
