“Ultra Tempus” explores the space between two people, and the strange sense that some connections exist beyond time. The two figures emerge from the same field of hair, almost separate and yet inseparable, their identities overlapping without becoming one.
Hair has long been a recurring element in my work. I am drawn to the way it can conceal and reveal at the same time, creating a space where the boundary between the body and its surroundings becomes unclear.
The title, Ultra Tempus, means “beyond time.” For me, the painting is about the feeling that beneath our individual lives there is something that remains unchanged: a connection that exists before, beyond and outside of the moment we happen to inhabit.
