Crocodile Tears

Sasha Wilk is a self-taught painter, printmaker, and muralist, born in the former Soviet Union and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Before becoming a professional artist, she lived many lives: studying behavioral neuroscience, experimenting on the sensory systems of fish, working with sea lions at an aquarium, as a counselor for a girl with autism, as a circus arts teacher, a science teacher, and an organic farmer. These experiences have informed her creative process and inspire her to portray people and animals as complex individuals with rich inner worlds, while celebrating the wonder of nature and interconnectedness. Her journey continues as a full-time artist in Portland, where she lives with her husband, toddler, and two dogs.
