Born in Detroit, Michigan in 1977, Aunia Kahn is a multidisciplinary curator, gallerist, and visual artist working in gouache, acrylic, oil pastel, colored pencil, and hand-painted 3D elements, creating vibrant, layered compositions that blend personal narrative with rich cultural influences.
A self-taught artist, Kahn’s practice was forged through a difficult upbringing and life-threatening health challenges that shaped her dedicated studio life. Her Contemporary Symbolist Folk paintings draw from French Canadian heritage, German and Polish folk traditions, iconography, Pre-Raphaelite and Surrealist painters, and the natural world, weaving symbolic storytelling through women, animals, and nature in rich color palettes and bold decorative patterning, exploring sanctuary, life and death, and transformation.
Her work has been exhibited at venues including the San Diego Art Institute, St. Louis Art Museum, Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, Modern Eden Gallery, and Thinkspace Projects, among others across 10 countries. She has curated national and international exhibitions, lectured at Washington University School of Medicine, Scott Air Force Base, and New Jersey Visual Arts, and been featured in Colossal, My Modern Met, Booooooom, Create! Magazine, Beautiful Bizarre Magazine, Prevention Magazine and Authority Magazine.
She’s the co-owner Poetic Tiger Gallery, serves as Editor-in-Chief of Hyperlux Magazine and hosts the Curated Muse Podcast.
