  • Taken by Night: A New Collection by Sheri DeBow

Opening Reception: Saturday October 18, 2014 6-10 pm

    Exhibition Dates: October 18 - November 1, 2014

Modern Eden Gallery is pleased to announce Taken by Night, the latest series of handmade fine art dolls by Sheri DeBow inspired by vampires. The charismatic and sophisticated vampire of modern fiction was born in 1819 with the publication of The Vampyre by John Polidori and Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula. The vampire genre has long inspired books, films, television shows, and fine art.

Exhibition Statement from the artist:Growing up in a religious home I have memories of sneaking in to watch old vampire movies. I’ve always been intrigued at how we all love that rush of fright and attraction to danger. As I grew older, my love of reading and period pieces brought on a great fondness for Bram Stoker and Anne Rice novels. The seduction of Dracula is an alluring and irresistible tale representing the beautiful side of evil.  In this collection, I focused on characters that are drawn in and controlled against their will and desires. "Taken By Night" is the story of dark temptations and living with those consequences forever.

Sheri DeBowcreates emotive and intricate dolls and sculptures from clay and various mixed media materials. Never using molds or taking shortcuts, each piece is a unique result of meticulous creation. As a student, she worked and studied under sculptor Franco Vianello, Phil Cornelius, Michael Maday, Professor Sakaguchi, Richard Carter and Sensei Kusakabe. She now works as a full-time artist and mom to five children in California’s Napa Valley. Sheri DeBow’s work has been featured twice on the cover of Art Doll Quarterly and most recently in Beautiful Bizarre Magazine. Her highly-collected dolls have received accolades and honors across the globe.

The opening reception will be held at Modern Eden Gallery on Saturday, October 18 from 6-10pm. Featured artist, Sheri DeBow will be in attendance at the reception.  The exhibition will be on display through November 1, 2014 and is free and open to the public.
