Holly Mathews is a fine artist currently located in Savannah, Georgia. She received her Bachelor of Fine Art degree in 2012 from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and her Master of Fine Art degree from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 2017.
Her practice revolves around the concept that traditional skill and contemporary dialogue can not only exist within the same narrative, but also that each can greatly strengthen the other. She generally works with oil, acrylic, and encaustic mediums, but collage and a variety of experimental techniques are also employed to push the technical narrative of the work. The major themes present in the work revolve around ideas of identity, personal and collective histories, relationships with place and nature, the creative impulse and mythology, and the body as subject.
