Jeff Sheridan is a multi-disciplinary artist who paints an archetypal narrative that draws inspiration from science, the occult, and folklore. Sheridan challenges viewers by blurring the lines between artistic and cultural styles in his presentation- often shunning and investigating contemporary themes at the same time.
Sheridan's work explores the dual nature of our contemporary existence- which advocates improvement while living in a state of constant decay. The decay of our infrastructure offers a referential observation of the self. Sheridan distorts and simplifies the structure of modern physical identity in order to explore our intrapersonal relationship between our mental and physical carapaces. Bodies are depicted as cocoons in chrysalis. Emotions present themselves in classic folkloric and indigenous archetypes as they come in contact with modernity. Boundaries between mental and physical are transcended and presented to the viewer as the dried two-dimensional remains of a very multi-dimensional experience.
Sheridan's cartoons are anecdotes on contemporary issues, social tics, psychological minutiae, and the environment. They have been recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists, and featured in Creative Loafing, The Tampa Bay Times, The South Florida Sun-Sentinel, and the Portland Mercury.
Jeff was born in Chicago, Illinois, raised in South Florida, and currently lives and works in Portland, Oregon.
