In my work caterpillars represent the feeling that sits between “ewww” and being mesmerized by butterfly wings. All animals - and flowers, and plants, and even celestial bodies in my work - are essentially the stand-ins for human (and sometimes nonhuman) emotions. Some emotions are uncomplicated and innocent and childlike, and some are so strange and complex we don’t have a name for them yet. But they exist anyway, and couldn’t possibly care less about our insufficient vocabulary. They hide between pages of a book, and on the edges of an old forest. City sidewalks are full of them. And in art, they’re everywhere.

Every stitch, every bead, every pearl in my embroidered panels are sewn on velvet by hand. It’s a slow process but i found this is the only way i can fully explore my ideas - while working on them. I often say that my embroidered tapestries made mostly out of time. Hopefully, it makes them timeless.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0058/3532/files/LarysaBernhardt_408679ef-01d5-469f-a66c-a247c707be4e.jpg?v=1792123423
