This year’s theme explores the power of what we reveal and what we conceal. A mask can protect, transform, seduce, or liberate, hiding the face while exposing something deeper beneath. Through disguise, performance, ritual, and self invention, artists examine identity as something fluid, layered, and unstable. From ceremonial masks and theatrical personas to alter egos, private selves, and imagined identities, Masquerade considers the tension between who we are and who we choose to present. She works with some old retro televisions and gives life back to them by becoming the medium of a representation forever motionless. Some paintings on canvas are also made with this concept and most recently some special series of paintings. A feminine theme prevails in her work in the form of surrealist portraits where the emotions are drawn from the complexity of a relationship between two people; expectation, worry, obsession, secret, domination. The translucent textures are in contradiction with some more disturbing and darker allusions. As a professional dancer he performed soloist roles for the Oakland Ballet, Menlowe Ballet and the San Francisco Opera. Despite the rigorous training and rehearsal schedule, Damon continued to sketch almost daily. After twelve years on stage, Damon retired from ballet without knowing what was next. Before long, he found himself pulled into the world of textiles. Inspired by the ornate costumes and fluid movement of dance, he began exploring the art of making scarves through knitting, sewing and painting designs. The resulting collection led to the launch of Damon Grey in boutiques across Marin County and San Francisco, California. Damon continued to experiment, exploring the use of high-quality digital technology to transform his artwork into vibrant textiles. The evolution of this art exploration led to a series of paintings, exploring surrealism, abstract and figurative work. In 2020 Damon began studying with renown artist Sara Gallagher, incorporating her unique technique of photorealistic drawing into his practice. While continuing to expand on his abstract and figurative work, portraiture has become a major focus, where he combines his love of classical imagery with an imaginative, contemporary twist.

Damon L.
