The myth of Daphne and the laurel centers on Daphne, a free-spirited nymph who values her independence and connection to nature. When pursued relentlessly by Apollo, Daphne feels a deep sense of desperation to escape his advances. In a moment of sheer panic and determination, she calls out to her father, the river god Peneus, for rescue. Responding to her plea, Peneus transforms Daphne into a laurel tree, allowing her to preserve her freedom and remain untouched. Daphne's transformation into the laurel tree symbolizes her enduring desire to remain true to herself and her innate connection to the natural world.
Morgan Booth is an established Pop Figurative artist based in Toronto, Canada. Her signature blue figure oil paintings use surreal colour choices and figures to explore concepts of identity and discovery of self. Playing with the perceptual experience and physical response to colour, Booth uses blue tones to evoke feelings of calmness and contemplation, while using the intensity of warm colours to stimulate.
Selected exhibitions include J/M Gallery in London, UK and Sugarmynt Gallery in Pasadena, CA, and the Art Gallery of Mississauga. Booth's works are part of several private collections in Canada, the United States and England.
