  • Inspired by Herman Hesse's character, Siddhartha from "Siddhartha"

Siddhartha is a novel by Hermann Hesse that deals with the spiritual journey of self-discovery of a man named Siddhartha during the time of the Buddha. The book, Hesse's ninth novel (1922), was written in German, in a simple, lyrical style. It was published in the U.S. in 1951 and became influential during the 1960s. Hesse dedicated Siddhartha to his wife Meiner Frau Ninon gewidmet and supposedly afterwards to Romain Rolland and Wilhelm Gundert.

The word Siddhartha is made up of two words in the Sanskrit language, siddha (achieved) + artha (meaning or wealth), which together means "he who has found meaning (of existence)" or "he who has attained his goals".[3] In fact, the Buddha's own name, before his renunciation, was Siddhartha Gautama, Prince of Kapilvastu. In this book, the Buddha is referred to as "Gotama".
  • "I am an artist living and working in San Francisco, CA. When not creating in the studio, my professional time is spent between exhibiting artwork and teaching painting/drawing. I have been fortunate to work with the elderly thru the non-profit Art With Elders organization for the past 5 years, as well as with the younger generation at the Academy of Art University SF where I currently teach Fine Art Anatomy and in the past Fashion Illustration. I have shown at a variety of venues mainly in the bay area, as well as nationally working with White Walls Gallery, Art Wino, Spoke Art, Modern Eden, among others including pop-up shows at the Academy of Science, live painting at the West Inn’s New Year Gala and other similar forms of contemporary exhibition. Like the art itself, my professional practice stems from my ideas, beliefs and values. Whenever possible I have and continue to donate art towards such benefits and organizations including the SPCA, the coalition on homelessness in San Francisco, the Japanese Tsunami Relief fund, Oceanic Awareness Collaboration and other charitable causes." -Akira Beard
