  • Modern Eden Gallery presents Verdant an art exhibition inspired by the moment between Summer and Autumn. When lush abundance meets the soft decay and spoils of Fall.

  • I was born in London but grew up in Essex near Epping Forest. I returned to London for Art School and studied painting, mixed media, and film.  Next I went off to New York to do my MFA. Eventually I moved to California and settled in Marin in 1991.

Much of my childhood was spent making dresses and homes for my dolls. I also loved going for nature walks in the forest with my dad looking for mushrooms and hoping to see a deer but never actually seeing one because they’d all been hunted to extinction.  I also hoped to see a red squirrel but never did as they’d been displaced by the grey American squirrels. Music, dancing and singing were also important, and I had a deep love of kittens, horses and Mary Poppins.  All these things still preoccupy me today.

I work mainly on canvas with oil paint but often other materials get added, like glitter, silver leaf, metal, paper, and graphite.  I love using printmaking techniques on all sorts of things. The fact that paint can create illusions and imaginary stuff was underrated by my early art teachers but is something I value. I also like trees and using wood for sculpture. Then again some of my ideas work best on clothes or in books. Anyway there you have it, a brief history of me. - Stephanie Jucker
